Before you choose a home internet plan, check Virginia’s broadband map
Commonwealth Connection can help identify service options—but an address-level provider check still matters.
A house can look ideal while leaving a crucial question unanswered: what internet service can actually be ordered there? Virginia's Commonwealth Connection map offers a starting point for residents comparing a move, a new plan or a home-work setup.
The Department of Housing and Community Development describes the tool as a statewide view of service territories and maximum available speeds. Providers submit updated territory information annually. Its 2026 submission process used service-availability data reflecting December 31, 2025.
Use the map to build a shortlist
Start with the Commonwealth Connection and the location you want to check. Then ask the listed providers whether they can serve the exact address, what installation involves and when service could begin.
Our practical recommendation is to compare the total recurring bill, equipment charges, upload speed and any introductory-price end date before committing. A coverage map is useful research; it is not an installation appointment or a guarantee of the price a provider will offer.
