An insect encounter can start with curiosity instead of a swat. Southeast Hokie BugFest brings a free day of science activities to Chesapeake on Saturday, October 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event takes place at Russell Memorial Library, 2808 Taylor Road. Virginia Cooperative Extension’s organizer page lists interactive exhibits, crafts, insect specimens and pollinator seed packets to take home.

Activities are intended for children and adults. The state tourism listing also highlights beekeepers and opportunities to learn about beneficial insects and forest pests.

Families can use the exhibits to connect garden observations with questions for local experts. The program brings together Extension offices from several Hampton Roads and nearby communities.

For questions or accommodation requests, contact the Chesapeake Extension office at 757-382-6348. Organizers ask that accommodation needs be discussed five days in advance.

Check the organizer’s event page and Virginia tourism listing before traveling. Details checked October 3. More family plans: Things to Do.
