Danville is set to gain a larger base for a business that works on the education side of workforce development. TECHnista plans a $15.1 million investment and at least 22 jobs, according to a September 18 Virginia economic-development announcement.

The education consulting firm develops K–12 curriculum and workforce initiatives tied to defense and advanced manufacturing. Its expansion includes a lease of the 30,000-square-foot Cyber Park shell building owned by the Danville-Pittsylvania Regional Industrial Facility Authority.

Linking classrooms and careers

Led by founder and chief executive Kelsey Robertson, TECHnista is developing programs intended to introduce students to manufacturing and technology careers. The state announcement describes its federally supported MEERA pilot and a National Training and Technology Center in Pittsylvania County.

Virginia approved a $75,000 Commonwealth's Opportunity Fund grant for the project. The announced jobs and investment are commitments to follow as the expansion proceeds, rather than completed outcomes.

For Southern Virginia, the local significance is the connection between industry recruitment and the preparation of future workers. Read the project details and follow our Business & Innovation desk.
