Music returns to the heart of Jackson Ward this weekend as Richmond’s 2nd Street Festival marks its 38th year. The free event runs October 3–4 across the neighborhood’s North 2nd Street corridor.

Saturday hours are 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday runs noon to 6 p.m. Stokley is scheduled to close Saturday’s main stage at 5:50 p.m., with Plunky & Oneness closing Sunday at 5 p.m.

Make room beyond the headline set

Three stages, an artists’ marketplace, food vendors and a children’s activity zone give visitors reasons to explore between performances. Free hour-long neighborhood walks with Gary Flowers depart at 3 p.m. each day from the sidewalk at the Maggie Walker National Historic Site, at 2nd and East Leigh streets.

Organizer Venture Richmond recommends bringing a chair and using the GRTC Pulse stop at 2nd and East Broad streets. There is no dedicated festival parking.

Check the current festival schedule before leaving. More performances appear in Music, Arts & Entertainment.
