JMU stays unbeaten with a 46–20 rivalry win in Norfolk
Four Camden Coleman touchdown passes and nine sacks carry the Dukes past Old Dominion in their Sun Belt opener.
James Madison left Norfolk with its unbeaten start intact Saturday, defeating Old Dominion 46–20 at S.B. Ballard Stadium to open Sun Belt Conference play.
The Dukes improved to 4–0 overall and 1–0 in the conference. Old Dominion fell to 1–3 and 0–1, according to JMU’s official game report.
Pressure made the difference
JMU recorded nine sacks, matching its FBS-era program record, and held the Monarchs to minus-14 rushing yards. Quarterback Camden Coleman threw four touchdown passes and finished with 243 passing yards. George Pettaway added 110 yards on 16 carries.
Old Dominion reduced a 30–7 deficit to 30–17 by halftime, keeping the game within reach. The Dukes allowed only three points after the break and finished with 405 total yards to ODU’s 247.
For the Virginia rivalry, the result extends JMU’s series advantage to 5–2. The Dukes return to Harrisonburg to face Marshall on October 3 at 3:45 p.m., with television coverage on ESPNU.
