Norfolk and Blacksburg employers earn statewide internship honors

Three businesses receive recognition as Virginia expands support for paid student work experiences.

By The Virginian News · Published October 3, 2026

Employers in Norfolk, Blacksburg and Richmond have received Virginia’s statewide Top Employers for Interns honors, putting businesses of different sizes in the spotlight for developing student talent.

The October 1 announcement names Overhead Solutions Group in Norfolk as the small-business winner, Triple Point Security in Blacksburg as the mid-size winner and Atlantic Union Bank in Richmond as the large-business winner.

Paid experience, with support for employers

The recognition is connected to InternshipsVA, launched in February to help employers create and expand paid internships. Its resources include program design, recruitment tools, training and matching grants for qualifying employers.

For businesses considering an internship program, that support offers a place to begin planning the work and supervision a student would receive. For students, the honors identify employers to research, but they do not establish that a particular vacancy is currently open.

The governor’s announcement links the program and regional honorees. Check individual employers for current opportunities, pay and application requirements. Follow Business & Innovation for Virginia workforce coverage.
