Virginia Tech’s unbeaten start ended by two points Friday night in Blacksburg. Pitt held on for a 35–33 win at Lane Stadium after the Hokies missed a potential game-winning field goal.

Tech falls to 4–1 overall and 1–1 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Pitt improves to 5–0 and 2–0 in the conference.

A fast start, then a narrow finish

The Hokies scored the game’s first two touchdowns, but their late comeback could not finish the job. Quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer passed for 434 yards, according to Virginia Tech’s game report.

The result changes the outlook from protecting a perfect start to responding on the road. Tech travels to Berkeley to face California on Saturday, October 10, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Eastern.

The official recap and statistics provide the full game breakdown. Check the team’s current schedule for final television information before next weekend. More college coverage: Sports.
