Voting before November: the Virginia dates and lookup tools to keep handy
Early voting is underway; check your locality’s locations and hours before making the trip.
Virginia's early voting period for the November 3 general and special elections began September 18 and runs through 5 p.m. October 31. The practical next step is checking where—and when—your own locality offers voting.
The Department of Elections calendar lists October 23 as the deadline to register or update a registration through the regular process. It also says voters may register and vote with a provisional ballot in person after that date through Election Day.
Three checks before you go
Confirm your record and ballot. Use the state's polling-place and ballot lookup rather than relying on a previous election's location.
Check early-voting hours locally. Satellite sites and daily hours require a locality-specific check. An Election Day polling place is not necessarily an early-voting site.
Allow time for a mailed ballot request. The request must reach the local registrar by 5 p.m. October 23. The official calendar links to the Citizen Portal and registrar directory.
On Election Day, polling places are open 6 a.m.–7 p.m.; voters in line at closing may vote. Consult the state's voting guide for identification and accessibility information.
