At Danville Family Vet, long local roots meet a broad veterinary team
Jeff Smith and colleagues combine preventive care, diagnostics and surgery at the Piney Forest Road practice.
Jeff Smith's connection to Danville dates to 1994. Today, as medical director of Danville Family Vet, he works with a team whose experience spans preventive medicine, surgery, dentistry and the many practical demands of caring for animals over a lifetime.
The Piney Forest Road practice offers wellness visits and same-day appointments alongside diagnostic imaging, dental care and surgery. Boarding and grooming extend its services beyond the examination room, making the business part of both routine pet care and the moments when an owner needs medical help.
Smith, an Auburn graduate, has interests in dentistry and behavioral medicine as well as surgery. His work has included surgical referrals from surrounding communities, connecting the Danville practice with pet owners beyond the city itself.
The wider team brings its own paths into veterinary care. Practice manager Amy Lee began working with animals as a teenager and later earned an associate degree in business management. Licensed veterinary technician Wayne Schandelmeier entered the profession after retiring from the Army. Veterinarian Joy Taylor, a Mississippi State graduate, has particular interests in preventive medicine and ultrasound.
Together, those roles illustrate how much of a veterinary practice happens through collaboration. A veterinarian's diagnosis, a technician's care, an organized appointment and clear communication with an owner all contribute to the same visit. Family Vet's range of services requires people with different training to work around the needs of each patient.
For Danville families, the practice offers continuity across ordinary checkups and more involved treatment. Its local story is rooted in Smith's years in the community, but it also includes the colleagues who keep the practice moving from one day's patients to the next.
