Emergent Financial Services connects family experience with Charlottesville’s financial future
The Urpí family’s investment and planning practice also makes room for conversations with local Latino entrepreneurs.
A discussion about a retirement plan and a conversation with a local entrepreneur may begin in different places. At Emergent Financial Services, both are part of a family-led effort to make financial life more understandable.
The Charlottesville firm combines investment management with planning for household decisions, including retirement, education savings, budgets and Social Security. It operates as an independent, fee-only firm and identifies as a Hispanic-owned business.
Chief investment officer Xavier Urpí brings more than four decades of investment experience to the practice. His career included work on fixed-income indexes at Lehman Brothers and later roles at Cypress Capital and Cutler Investment Group before forming Emergent in 2017.
Alex Urpí, the firm’s chief executive and a Chartered Financial Analyst, is a University of Virginia graduate. His work connects investment analysis with the firm’s business and community relationships. The wider team includes financial planning and data-analysis roles, giving the practice several perspectives on a client’s questions.
That interest in financial understanding reaches beyond private appointments. Alex and Xavier host Today y Mañana, a program featuring conversations about finance and Latino entrepreneurship. It provides another setting for discussing how people build businesses and plan for the future.
The firm’s Old Ivy Way office serves as a base for those planning relationships. Clients can explore investment management alongside the practical questions that give a portfolio its purpose: when to retire, how to prepare for education costs and how to organize competing priorities. Investment results are not guaranteed, and recommendations depend on individual circumstances.
