At Epperly Mill, a working past makes room for new gatherings
The historic Floyd mill now welcomes overnight guests, music and special occasions beside Dodd Creek.
Built in 1901 by John Epperly, Epperly Mill has found a new purpose without losing the building at the center of its story. The mill beside Dodd Creek, about a mile from downtown Floyd, now combines lodging with space for music and gatherings.
Its accommodations are arranged as two distinct suites. The Kimball Suite offers a spacious setting with a king bed and a sitting area overlooking the creek. The Coleman Suite has two bedrooms, a kitchen and dining space, with room for up to five guests.
The suites can also be reserved together, giving a group more privacy and access to the surrounding outdoor space. That arrangement suits visitors who want time together as well as room to spread out during a Floyd stay.
Music and arts are another part of the mill’s current life. Its performance and gathering space connects the historic structure with the creative activity for which the town is known. Couples or event hosts can contact the mill directly to discuss the fit and arrangements for a particular occasion.
The owners describe guest stays as part of what sustains the building. It is a fitting new chapter for a structure once associated with everyday community work: people still come together here, even though the purpose of the visit has changed.
