A Lynchburg mortgage team built around two complementary roles
Will and Joanna Luper have grown a two-person venture into a lending team with dedicated roles from application through closing.
A home loan moves through many hands before closing. At Luper Team Mortgage in Lynchburg, Will and Joanna Luper have built their business around making those handoffs part of a coordinated process.
The two loan officers and co-branch managers started the team in 2016. Will concentrates on the loan itself: preapprovals, financing strategy, rate locks and the steps leading to closing. Joanna directs branch operations, supports the team and maintains relationships with real estate agents. Their responsibilities meet where borrowers most need continuity—between the financing conversation and the work required to carry it out.
Based on Hexham Drive, the team operates through Movement Mortgage and serves Lynchburg and surrounding Central Virginia communities. Its financing options include conventional loans, refinancing and loans for investment properties, along with programs intended for borrowers whose income does not fit a simple salary-and-pay-stub pattern. Eligibility and available terms depend on the borrower and the loan program.
The business has grown beyond its original two people. Loan officers Brady Shorey and Scott Martin work with borrowers, while John Murdock focuses on business development and connecting clients with the team. Shorey's earlier career was in personal training; Martin brings a career spent largely in mortgage lending. Their different backgrounds sit within the same emphasis on explaining options and maintaining communication.
Behind the loan officers are application analyst Shalie Williams, processor Rose Johnson and marketing coordinator Colleen Larkins. Their work takes a mortgage file from the initial application through the detailed processing needed before closing.
For Will and Joanna, the venture that began with the two of them now has a broader supporting cast. The division of responsibilities remains at its center, linking the financial details of a loan with the daily coordination that brings a buyer to the closing table.
