Magnolia Medspa brings a nursing perspective to aesthetics in Lynchburg
Joslyn Brooks combines bedside experience and focused aesthetic training at the Old Forest Road practice.
Joslyn Brooks’ route into aesthetics began at the bedside. Her nursing career includes medical-surgical care and an assignment in surgical trauma at UNC Chapel Hill—experience she now brings to a different kind of patient conversation at Magnolia Medspa in Lynchburg.
Brooks, a registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Liberty University, completed her nursing residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. With more than a decade of nursing experience, she has developed an interest in the intersection of clinical care and the careful visual decisions involved in aesthetic treatment.
At Magnolia Medspa, her work includes neuromodulator injections, dermal fillers and microneedling. She has pursued aesthetic training with Sylvia Silvestri in Nashville and Margaret McIntyre in Stafford. Rather than treating aesthetics as a departure from nursing, her professional background brings the two together: medical knowledge remains part of a service that also requires attention to proportion, preferences and the individual.
Brooks describes an artistic and musical family background as an influence on her approach. That creative interest helps explain the emphasis she places on natural beauty and thoughtful, personalized treatment. The aim is a discussion about what a client wants, with suitability and treatment choices considered individually.
Brian Subach, MD, serves as the practice’s medical director and supervising physician. His background includes neurosurgery, pain management and aesthetics. He established his own aesthetic practice in 2018 and subsequently completed additional training in injectable treatments, including an Allergan AMI course and advanced hyaluronic acid filler techniques.
Those are distinct roles within the practice. Brooks is the registered nurse and aesthetic injector; Subach provides physician oversight. Keeping those responsibilities clear matters in a field where patients should understand who is providing their care and how a proposed treatment fits their circumstances.
Magnolia operates by appointment at 3311 Old Forest Road, Unit 104. Its services give Lynchburg clients a local setting for exploring nonsurgical aesthetic options with a clinician whose experience extends beyond the treatment room’s cosmetic focus.
Brooks’ story is ultimately one of professional continuity. The setting and services have changed, but her work still begins with a person, a set of questions and the need for careful attention. At Magnolia, that nursing foundation is part of the practice’s character.
