Mahone Mortgage brings a Charlottesville family story to home financing

Philip and Tom Mahone grew up in Charlottesville, built careers in mortgage lending and then decided to open a business together. In January 2008, Mahone Mortgage began serving borrowers under the family name.

The company operates as a mortgage brokerage, working with multiple lending partners rather than offering only one institution’s products. Its work includes home purchases and refinancing, with the aim of matching financing options to a borrower’s circumstances.

Behind that search is an in-house team that includes processing, production management and closing coordination. A mortgage application passes through many hands and deadlines; keeping those functions close to the loan officers gives clients a defined team to contact as the transaction develops.

A second generation has joined the business. Philip’s son Alex Mahone came aboard in August 2021 after service with the Peace Corps in Zambia and work with the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville. His path adds another kind of community experience to the family’s lending background.

The brokerage’s Berkmar Court office remains anchored in the place where the brothers were raised. Its story is less about a single loan product than about continuity: familiar people guiding a complicated transaction, with local roots that extend well beyond the closing table.
