For Michael Peer, a South Boston dental practice is a long local commitment

Some of the familiar faces at Michael C. Peer's dental practice have worked together since 1995. That was the year Peer took ownership of the South Boston office, beginning a chapter that has now stretched across three decades.

Peer grew up in Halifax County and earned his dental degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 1987. Before establishing his own practice, his work included public-health dentistry for schoolchildren in the Staunton and Augusta area. His career eventually brought him back to the community where he grew up.

The practice on Hamilton Boulevard offers preventive, general, restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Routine care sits alongside work intended to repair or improve teeth, giving patients a place to discuss both immediate concerns and longer-term dental needs.

Continuity is visible in the staff as well as in the name on the building. Hygienist Donna and dental assistant Teresa joined the practice in 1995. Tara joined in 2004. Peer's interest in continuing education accompanies that stability. His postgraduate training has included digital impressions, dental lasers and implants, extending his studies beyond the qualification he earned in 1987.
