Mountain Run Winery gives old farm buildings a new place in Culpeper celebrations

A 1950s corncrib is an unlikely starting point for a wedding venue. At Mountain Run Winery, it is part of the appeal: the farm’s working buildings have found new uses without losing the shapes and materials that connect them to the land.

The family-run winery opened in 2016 on a 36-acre farm near Culpeper. Its converted corncrib serves as a tasting room, while barns, open ground and a vineyard provide several ways to assemble a celebration. Wine shares the drinks offering with beer, cider and mead, giving the farm a broader identity than a single tasting counter.

For ceremonies, the Overlook pairs a stone patio with a cedar arch. Another option places the gathering in a field with a vineyard backdrop. The choice changes both the view and the movement of guests through the property.

The Old Barn adds an indoor setting with a particularly direct connection to the farm’s history. Built in the early 1900s with wood from the property, it can accommodate a ceremony of up to 165 people or a seated dinner for 80, according to the venue. Those different capacities reflect the room needed for tables and dining rather than rows of ceremony seating.

The Main Barn offers another scale. Its pull-through layout accommodates dinner for up to 150 guests. Together, the two barns let the venue host celebrations with different arrangements instead of fitting every wedding into an identical floor plan.
