Pet Clinic of Martinsville pairs veterinary experience with a new family business role

A former animal-hospital building gained a new chapter when Eric Lorens expanded his veterinary work into Martinsville in 2016. After refurbishing the former Henry County Animal Hospital, he established the Pet Clinic of Martinsville as part of a career already rooted in Virginia animal care.

Lorens earned his veterinary degree at Virginia Tech in 1992. Eleven years of work in Northern Virginia followed before he became an owner in Rocky Mount in 2003. The Martinsville expansion came later, connecting that experience to a second community.

The clinic’s services span vaccinations, diagnostic work, surgery and dentistry, with ultrasound among its diagnostic capabilities. That range supports both routine visits and cases requiring a closer look at an animal’s condition.

In 2026, the family connection took another form when Dan Lorens joined as manager. His preparation combines an animal and poultry sciences degree with a master’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech, followed by four years in public accounting.

Those qualifications bring two perspectives to a veterinary business. An understanding of animal science connects to the setting in which the clinic operates; accounting experience relates to the organization required to keep a practice running. Dan’s management role is distinct from the clinical care provided by the veterinary team.

The Martinsville clinic therefore reflects both continuity and an addition: an experienced veterinarian’s local expansion, followed by a new generation taking on the business side of practice life. Its Veteran Road building is the physical anchor for that work.
