From a mower in a Grand Am to a growing landscape team

Joel Sutton began his landscaping business in 2010 with a push mower in the trunk of a Pontiac Grand Am and a trimmer extending through a rear window. It was an improvised setup, but it gave him the equipment he needed to start working.

A year later, according to the company’s history, landscaping became his full-time occupation. Sutton Landscaping now serves residential, commercial and industrial properties, with work extending across Central Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.

Joel remains president, supported by staff responsible for projects, operations, accounts and office coordination. That organization is a long way from carrying equipment in a passenger car.
