The Eighty Four turns a Floyd family dairy barn toward celebration
Derek and Allie Mannon’s venue preserves a farm connection dating to the barn’s construction in 1946.
The barn at The Eighty Four was built for dairy farming in 1946. Its new life as a wedding venue began decades later, when Derek and Allie Mannon undertook a two-year renovation of a building already woven into their family’s history.
The barn stands on an 84-acre farm in Floyd. Derek’s great-grandfather, B. T. Mannon, built it, and the property has remained connected to four generations of the family. When the venue opened in 2020, the change was substantial, but it did not require inventing a rural setting around a new event building.
Derek brought construction experience to the project, while Allie brought experience in weddings. Their respective backgrounds came together in the work of adapting an agricultural building for gatherings: preserving the recognizable barn while preparing it for a different kind of activity.
The result combines the building’s older form with a more contemporary event setting. The farm remains part of the experience, rather than simply a view beyond a reception room. Even the venue’s donkeys have become a distinctive part of its public identity.
The Mannons also present the Nira House as a separate lodging offering in Floyd, connecting the event business to another historic property. Accommodation and the venue are distinct arrangements, but together they show the family’s interest in giving existing buildings renewed uses.
At the center of The Eighty Four’s story is still the dairy barn. Its history gives the venue something specific to preserve, while the renovation makes room for couples to create their own occasions there.
Couples interested in the property can contact The Eighty Four to learn about availability and event arrangements. The venue sits on Webbs Mill Road in Floyd, on the family farm from which it takes its name.
