Thomas & Wall brings hometown roots and hospitality experience to Floyd real estate

Kelly Thomas and Derek Wall came to real estate with different but complementary training. Thomas studied property management at Virginia Tech, with minors in real estate and communication studies. Wall studied hospitality and tourism management, then worked in the hotel industry. Both grew up in Carroll County.

They brought those backgrounds together when they started Thomas & Wall Real Estate. Based on North Locust Street in Floyd, the company works with buyers, sellers, renters and property owners across a rural region where understanding the property is only part of understanding the transaction.

Wall’s career included managing Hotel Floyd for eight years, according to his Floyd County Chamber of Commerce biography. Hospitality gave him experience helping people who were arriving in the area, getting their bearings and deciding what they wanted from their stay. Real estate gave that service a longer horizon: helping clients make a home or an investment in Southwest Virginia.

Thomas’s property-management training is reflected in another substantial part of the firm’s work.
