In Abingdon, the Walters–McCool team builds financial planning around long relationships
Chris Walters and Mike McCool both joined Cary Street Partners in 2009. They brought different professional experiences to the same Southwest Virginia office, where their work now connects financial planning, investment management and the day-to-day questions that accompany a family's changing circumstances.

The Walters–McCool team operates on West Main Street in Abingdon. Its planning services encompass retirement, education, insurance, estate and tax considerations, with recommendations developed around individual client objectives.
Walters' earlier career included work in the Virginia governor's office and as an analyst with Nomura Securities in New York. He holds the Certified Financial Planner and Certified Investment Management Analyst designations.
McCool began his financial-services career in 2004 at Highlands Union Bank in Abingdon. He studied finance at William & Mary. His work with individuals and families includes retirement, education and estate-planning goals.
The office also includes a newer generation of financial professionals. Erik Jones studied finance at Virginia Tech and first worked with the firm as an intern before joining full time. Now an associate financial advisor and Certified Financial Planner, he assists with client service and account administration.
Those advisory roles are supported by colleagues who help maintain the continuing relationship. Senior client relationship manager Gina Rowe joined Cary Street Partners in 2011, bringing prior experience in financial services. The team's structure recognizes that planning involves both developing a strategy and keeping the details of service organized afterward.
Its approach is consultative, beginning with the client's goals rather than a standard plan. A prospective client can contact the Abingdon office to learn about its services, fees and process. The result of any financial strategy depends on individual circumstances and market conditions; the team's role is to help clients evaluate choices within that context.
