Liam St. John brings blues, roots and rock ’n’ roll to Black Iris on February 5
Tickets are on sale for the Nashville-based singer-songwriter’s February 5, 2027, Richmond stop at Black Iris Gallery.
Richmond has a winter date with one of the most arresting new voices moving between blues, Americana and rock ’n’ roll. Liam St. John will perform at Black Iris Gallery on Friday, February 5, 2027, bringing his Unearth Tour to 321 West Broad Street.
The Richmond stop appears on St. John’s official tour schedule, with a live ticket link. The ticket listing did not yet publish doors, show time, price or age restrictions when this article was posted, so concertgoers should use the ticket page for the latest details before making plans.
A rising voice with a lived-in sound
St. John is a Spokane-born, Nashville-based singer and songwriter whose music pulls from blues, roots music, alt-country and rock. His performances favor a full-bodied rasp and the directness of a singer who sounds determined to make every line land.
His path has not been a straight line. After appearing on NBC’s The Voice in 2020, he moved through Los Angeles and Nashville while building an audience around independent releases. “Dipped in Bleach” became an early breakout, and the stripped-back recordings that followed gave listeners a close view of the voice at the center of his work.
The next chapter arrived with Man of the North, his debut full-length studio album, released by Big Loud Rock in September 2025. The record widens his palette without sanding down its edges. It includes collaborations with Houndmouth and Grammy-winning guitarist and songwriter Molly Tuttle, placing St. John’s blues foundation inside a broader Americana and rock frame.
That combination makes the Richmond date more than a tour-routing stop. St. John’s songs are built for the kind of room where an audience can hear the grain in a vocal, the snap of a guitar and the tension between quiet passages and a chorus opening up.
Black Iris enters a new live-music chapter
Black Iris is both a social club and a gallery, occupying a distinctive place in downtown Richmond’s creative life. Its music archive reaches across styles and eras, with past appearances by artists including Marc Ribot, Mary Lattimore, Helado Negro, Julianna Barwick and The Head & the Heart.
A nationally touring artist such as St. John is a strong fit for that history—and an exciting signal for what the Broad Street venue can become as it brings more live music into its current calendar. The room offers Richmond something different from a traditional theater or large club: a gathering place rooted in art, conversation and the immediacy of a close-range performance.
The date also places Richmond near the end of St. John’s early-2027 run through the South. His official schedule routes him through Knoxville, Chattanooga, Charleston, Carrboro, Greenville, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Baton Rouge, Mobile and Birmingham before the February 5 Black Iris show and a February 6 stop in Charlotte.
For Richmond listeners who like voices with weather in them—blues phrasing, country storytelling and rock energy—the February show is an early mark to put on the 2027 calendar. Tickets are on sale now through the official tour listing.
