Night work on Route 460 and Riner widening affect Montgomery County drivers

VDOT lists overnight ramp restrictions this week and a longer Route 8 project adding a turn lane and sidewalks.

Overnight work on Route 460 and a newly announced Route 8 widening project will affect trips through Montgomery County, according to VDOT’s October 30 traffic bulletin.

Westbound Route 460 patching is scheduled for the nights of November 1–5, from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning. VDOT lists exit 3 on-ramp closures, narrowed on-ramps at Roanoke Street and right-lane closures. Drivers should follow the current message boards because operations can change.

In Riner, work is underway between the post office and Auburn Middle School. The project will extend the center turn lane approximately 0.27 mile south from Union Valley Road and add sidewalks, curb and gutter, and drainage improvements. Completion is expected in summer 2028.

Route 8 may be reduced to one lane under flagger control from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. An intermittent overnight detour may use Five Points Road during those same hours.

VDOT’s district bulletin separates this week’s patching from the longer Riner construction schedule.
