Sailor’s Creek invites families to name veterans for November luminaries

Families can have a veteran’s name, rank and service branch displayed on a luminary at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park.

Families can have a veteran’s name, rank and service branch displayed on a luminary at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield Historical State Park. The Rice park is taking submissions by email at sailorscreek@dcr.virginia.gov for its November 14 commemoration.

There are two ways to spend the evening. A 6 p.m. campfire presentation on the visitor center’s back patio gives families and people with limited mobility a way to take part without walking the battlefield. Guided groups leave at 6:30 and 7 p.m. for a lighted trail where historians interpret the battle and its aftermath.

The park says the program is free. It recommends closed-toe shoes for the varied ground along the walking route.
